We knew that Toni would be talking to many different schools and students so we wanted to make sure we left her with something memorable. We talked a lot about what we should communicate to her. We decided that including Tikanga and Te Reo would help us share some of the uniqueness of New Zealand and we would also discuss the Wai Water global project we have been involved in.
We began the call with a Waiata – E minaka ana to welcome Toni to NZ. This waiata is about Te Reo, a language that we very nearly lost. Its lyrics remind us that this language is our precious inheritance. We feel proud when we use Te Reo and you can hear it in our song and see it in our actions. By using Te Reo every day we help to ensure it will live on.
