And so we began a very busy hour (well hour and a half) on the www.code.org website working on their various hour of code sessions. Due to it being near the end of our school year we didn't login, however by the end of the session they were all keen to do more. Some chose the Star Wars theme, others Minecraft and even a few tried the Frozen hour of code session. Those that picked it up quickly got through a second session during our extended time in the ICT suite.
What I loved about the afternoon was the high levels of engagement and collaboration that were occurring around the room constantly. Students would share what they had learned with a buddy and talk about their achievements with others.
Due to the success of this one afternoon my class has asked to go on the www.code.org website once their work has been completed, every day since.
Next year I will certainly be making coding part of my teaching and learning program on a more regular basis, can't wait!
